Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) defeated former world champion Chinese Taipei's N.C.Chen 4-1 in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games boxing event.

Lovlina by reaching the semi-final has already earned a bronze medal. She will now face defending world champion Busanez Surmeneli of Turkey, who defeated Anna Lysenko of Ukraine in the quarterfinals.

Two-time World Championships bronze medalist Lovlina displayed tremendous restraint to beat an opponent she had lost earlier. After an aggressive start, she also controlled her defense in the last three minutes and did not miss any counter-attacks. 23-year-old Lovlina got split points in all the three rounds

Two-time World Championship medalist, Lovlina is the first boxer from Assam to qualify for the Olympics. 1.77m tall Lovlina Borgohain is competing in the 69kg category at the Tokyo Olympics.

Born on 2 October 1997 in the Golaghat district of Assam, Lovlina Borgohain is the first woman athlete from Assam to qualify for the Olympics. She is the second boxer from the state, after Shiv Thapa, to represent the country. She won the Arjuna Award in 2020 on the basis of her brilliant performance and became the sixth person from Assam to do so.

Lovlina's sisters Licha and Lima are also boxers. Lovlina represented India at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Earlier, he won the gold medal at the India Open, while he won the bronze in the Asian Championships.
