Liverpool defender Lovren: '98 heroes in touch with Croatia squad

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has revealed Croatia's 1998 World Cup heroes have been in touch. Twenty years ago Croatia - led by Golden Boot winner Davor Suker - finished third in their first World Cup and Lovren revealed how the class of '98 are providing the inspiration for the current crop. “The boys of '98 have spoken to us," Lovren said. “Drazen Ladic, who is on our staff here, was the goalkeeper then. One of our physiotherapists was involved, too. We watched a video of how they made such a big success with the national team. “We did it for motivation. We know what we want, and expectations are really high. Even those players talk of how we are the best generation the country has had. True, when you see the ability throughout our squad, it is unbelievable. With all that, though, you sometimes need a little luck as well. “They say we are much better than in '98 but we need to prove it on the pitch. For our generation this is the last chance to do something big."
