Mumbai City Fc create ISL history, starts away fans section
The moves come after last month incident where it was alleged that a few Chennaiyin FC fans had misbehaved with NorthEast United’s female supporters.
Mumbai City FC deserves credit for starting a dedicated seating arrangement for away for at the Mumbai Football Arena. In football away section is nothing new, it’s one of the basic as it ensures that fans sit separately and chances of altercations are low and also brings a sense of accountability with the away team conscious of their fans who have attended the game. However, this is a first in the Indian Super League (ISL).
In a statement on the club website (www.mumbaicityfc.com), Mumbai City FC said that the section for away fans will be functional from the home match against ATK on December 17 at the Mumbai Football Arena. A total of 200 seats at Stand 4B for away fans will be put on sale.
"In an effort to accommodate the supporters of the away teams who play in our Arena, this facility will be available to fans starting Sunday, December 17 in The Islanders next league fixture against ATK," read Mumbai City FC's statement.
Mumbai City FC CEO Indranil Das Blah said that the move will "ensure the safety and comfort of the away fans".
"We are delighted to have a special section for the visiting team's fans. It will not only bring a great atmosphere in the stands with both teams getting cheered on but will also ensure the safety and comfort of the away fans, allowing them to have a great, hassle-free matchday experience at the Mumbai Football Arena," he said.
