Over the years, despite being highly paid, footballers have been accused of tax fraud and other financial crimes.

Most recently, Manchester United and Premier League’s highest paid striker Alexis Sanchez was sentenced to 16 months in jail for tax fraud during his time at Barcelona.

But Sanchez has now agreed to pay back all that he owed, along with interest, to the Spanish treasury.

This is not the first time a high-profile footballer has been prosecuted by the Spanish courts for tax evasion.

Cristiano Ronaldo also made the headlines for evading millions of euros in taxes from the Spanish government.
