Rohit Sharma to lead India at the Asia Cup - Mumbai Indians

Spin twins, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, will look to showcase their magic on the dustbowls in UAE.In the absence of Virat Kohli, openers Shikhar Dhawan, who will be the vice-captain for this tour, and Rohit Sharma will have the additional responsibility of giving India good starts upfront.

India’s tour of England is in its concluding phase and the Men in Blue will feature next in Asia Cup, which will be held in UAE, from September 15 to 28. With Virat Kohli taking rest for this tournament, Rohit Sharma will be leading a new-look Team India for the second time after his successful outing as a skipper during last year’s Sri Lanka’s tour of India.

While Manish Pandey, Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav have been added to the 16-member squad, Suresh Raina, Umesh Yadav and Siddarth Kaul have been dropped. It will be interesting to see which of these three middle-order batsmen get a chance to play at number 4, a position which has been giving India the headache for a long time now.

Left-arm seamer, Khaleel Ahmed, is one of the interesting additions to the squad. The 20-year-old, who represents Rajasthan in domestic circuit, managed to impress the selectors and picked up 7 wickets for India A during the recently concluded quadrangular series. He will be another solid addition in the Indian pace attack which consists of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur. Jasprit Bumrah has been in good form in the ongoing test series and he will look to continue the good work in the gulf. Spin twins, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, will look to showcase their magic on the dustbowls in UAE.

In the absence of Virat Kohli, openers Shikhar Dhawan, who will be the vice-captain for this tour, and Rohit Sharma will have the additional responsibility of giving India good starts upfront. MS Dhoni’s experience behind the stumps will also play a vital role in India’s success. Hardik Pandya has steadily, over the period, gained a reputation of being a trusted all-rounder and his role in the squad will prove to be one of the most effective.

India has done well under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma who will look to lead from the front and ensure that India returns home with the trophy. His experience and recent ODI form will certainly boost the confidence of entire squad. Fair to say, Team India have put a strong foot ahead.
