Mumbai Indians’ wicketkeeper-batsman and rising sensation Ishan Kishan will lead the Board President’s XI against South Africa ‘A’ in a practice game at the end of this month. The 14-member squad also includes his Mumbai Indians teammate Siddhesh Lad.

Ishan Kishan was a part of a victorious India ‘A’ team which toured England recently. The prolific keeper-batsman got only two opportunities during the entire series with Rishabh Pant being the first-choice gloves man.

Kishan scored a 46-ball fifty against an ECB XI in the opening game and remained unbeaten on 21* during his next opportunity against Windies ‘A’. He also enjoyed a good time behind the stumps in his second match, being involved in as many as four dismissals.

The recently turned 20-year-old Ishan Kishan performed well for the Mumbai Indians in the 11th edition of the VIVO Indian Premier League. His record-equalling half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders became a talking point, especially after he hit India’s limited overs star, Kuldeep Yadav for four successive sixes at the Eden Gardens.

This is not the first time that Ishan Kishan has been asked to lead a team. He was the captain of the Indian U-19 team during the 2016 ICC Under 19 World Cup. His teammates from that side -- Anmolpreet Singh and Ricky Bhui also found a spot in the squad.

Mumbai’s prolific run-getter in the Ranji Trophy, Siddhesh Lad, will also see this as an opportunity to find himself in contention for a place in the India ‘A’ team.

The practice match will be played from July 30 in Belgaum, Karnataka.
