Injured Indian athlete Swapna Barman wins GOLD at heptathlon, 1st Indian GOLD heptathlete
Swapna Barman today created history by becoming the first Indian heptathlete to win an Asian Games gold. Depite her chin injury, Barman bagged gold and made India proud.
India’s Swapna Barman won India’s fifth athletics gold in heptathlon at the ongoing Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.
During the two-day long event, the 21-year-old had maintained her position among the medal contenders.
In the final event, the 800m, Barman finished with a time of 2:21.13, earning 803 points, enough for her to win the event.
The 21-year-old Barman logged 6026 points from the seven events competed for two days. En route the title, she won the high jump (1003 points) and javelin throw (872 points) events and finished second-best in shot put (707 points) and long jump (865 points).

Before Barman, only Bengal’s Soma Biswas and Karnataka’s J J Shobha and Pramila Aiyappa had returned with a medal from the Asian Games.
