The match between Manika Batra and Sofia Polcanova of Austria lasted for 27 minutes. Whatever little competition Manika was giving to Sofia was evident in the first round itself. Sofia looked dominant from the beginning of the second set and won it by 11-2; the set lasted just 4 minutes. They won 11-5 in the third round and won the fourth round 11-7.
On the other hand, Achanta Sharath Kamal has kept the medal hope intact. He entered the third round by defeating Tiago Apollonia of Portugal in the men's singles event. Before Manika, Sutirtha Mukherjee, who was playing her first Olympics today, was also out after losing in the second round.

Indian table tennis player Surtitha Mukherjee lost in the second round of the women's singles event. In the second round, Surtitha was defeated by Portuguese player Fu Yu 3-11, 3-11, 5-11, 5-11 in straight sets.
