With Narendra modi as the face of BJP-led NDA claimed a landslide victory.  Out of 543 seats it claimed 336 of them. It is the biggest victory since the 1984 election when Rajiv Gandhi was elected. It was also the first time ever in the 67-year history of independent India that a non-Congress party has won majority on its own.

India on 7th January test-fired its indigenously developed Prithvi-II missile, which was capable of carrying 500 kg to 1,000 kg of warheads and had a strike range of 350 km, from the test location at Chandipur. Such training launches indicated India's operational readiness to meet any eventuality.

Kailash Satyarthi shared his Nobel peace prize with Malala Yousafzai. He worked for struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education. Satyarthi is the fifth Nobel Prize winner for India and the second Indian to win Nobel Peace Prize after Mother Teresa.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched on 2 October 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is India's largest ever cleanliness drive with 3 million government employees, school and college students from all parts of India, participating in the campaign. Its objectives are to reduce and eliminate open defecation by constructing individual, cluster and community toilets.

India became one of the 11 countries in the South East Asian region which have been certified as being free of the wild polio virus. It was possible due to a strong team of 2.3 million polio volunteers and 150,000 supervisors who worked day and night to reach every child.

ISRO launched PSLV C-23 rocket which carried 5 foreign satellites belonging to four countries from Sriharikota on June 30th 2014 at Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. ISRO’s workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C23 placed all five satellites in their intended orbits after the liftoff.
