Dubai Super Series: Yamaguchi reign supreme, Sindhu settles for silver

Sindhu beat China's Chen Yufei in the semi-finals to emulate Saina Nehwal, who had reached the final in 2011 and mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju, who had ended runners-up in 2009.

So close yet so far as Sindhu missed out a chance to create history by becoming the first Indian player to win World Super Series Finals title.

Ace Indian shuttler went down fighting against Yamaguchi of Japan in the summit clash of the season-ending World Super Series Finals in Dubai.

Sindhu beat China's Chen Yufei in the semi-finals to emulate Saina Nehwal, who had reached the final in 2011 and mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju, who had ended runners-up in 2009.

PV Sindhu started the match brightly, winning the first set but Yamaguchi bounced back brilliantly to register an exhausting 15-21, 21-12, 21-19 win over the Indian in a match that lasted 94 minutes.
