IPL 2018: Delhi Daredevils Squad Analysis

With the inclusion of the Under 19 Indian players DD made a smart move. The U-19 captain Prithvi Shaw has already proved himself with his exile performance and is considered as the rising stars already.

With the return of the Most Successful Captain of IPL, Delhi Daredevils are all set to hit this years’ IPL season with renewed momentum.

Delhi has never won the IPL title since the start of the tournament but with the arrival of Gambhir, who has won two titles during his time at Kolkata.

The prodigal son has now returned home after a long span of 6 years, which means fans are excited about the new season.

The 36 years old, who was picked up for Rs 2.8 crore by the franchise has played 148 matches in IPL in which he has scored 4,133 runs at an average of 31.55.

Apart from Gambhir, skilled player Chris Morris and the Indian youngsters Rishab Pant and Shreyas Iyer who has proven themselves time and again can lead the team to their first title.

DD also has impressive bowlers like Colin Munro, Jason Roy, and Glenn Maxwell. The squad also include the firepower with pacer Mohammed Shami, Kagiso Rabada, and Trent Boult.

Delhi Daredevils will hope to make use of the best available resources to change their fortune and to retain their reputation.

Squad: Gautam Gambhir (C), Rishabh Pant, Chris Morris, Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, Colin Munro, Mohammed Shami, Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Dan Christian, Jayant Yadav, Gurkeerat Singh, Trent Boult, Manjot Kalra, Abhishek Sharma, Sandeep Lamichanne, Sayan Ghosh

Strength: A closer look at the squad, Delhi Daredevils looks quite a stout from the bowling department. With the retention of the South Africa seamer Kagiso Rabada for Rs 4.2 crore and Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami for Rs 3 crore, Delhi is hoping it’s best to move forward on the table. Delhi also retained Chris Morris, Trent Boult which further boosts their bowling attack. With Jayant Yadav and Shahbaz Nadeem along with experienced Amit Mishra, the only player to book 3 hat-tricks in IPL can trouble even the finest hitter of IPL.

Smart Buy: With the inclusion of the Under 19 Indian players DD made a smart move. The U-19 captain Prithvi Shaw has already proved himself with his exile performance and is considered as the rising stars already. With new faces in this IPL season, DD also included Manjot Kalra and Nepalese youngster Sandeep Lamichanne to showcase their talent in this IPL edition.

Weakness: Delhi has no doubt brought many top order batsmen but so many top line up can make the middle-order appear a bit weak. The opening options of DD remain for Gautam Gambhir, Rishab Pant, Colin Munro and Shreyas Iyer. The side has to set a balanced combination and decide who will open the innings and also settle the middle-order batsman. With the proper shuffle, the squad can trouble all the bowling line up.
