Australia are still planning on hosting the ICC World Cup this October and their recent form in T20 cricket has given hope that they can win the tournament for the first time. Everyone in Australia and the world of Cricket is desperate for the tournament to go ahead later this year as 16 countries will take part in the event which could be the first major event after the COVID19 outbreak.

Australia had recently played a T20 series against South Africa and performed well with both the bat and ball. David Warner and Aaron Finch both played great cricket to score half-centuries in the final match and Mitchell Starc, Aston Agar and Adam Zampa performed well with the ball.

Cricket has been hit like most sports with cancellation and tournaments postponed so far in Cricket have included the IPL 2020 in India and the new ‘Hundred’ tournament scheduled for England in August. Test matches and one-day international series scheduled to take place over the next few months have also been canceled.

Australia T20 Team revival

With the Australian Team progressing well recently there is still a huge ambition that they plan to host this year’s T20 World Cup in October.

Looking at their squad in more detail, the captain Aaron Finch has been leading the team well in recent matches and is excited about being the head of the team which would welcome the T20 World Cup in their country.  Finch scored 55 and 42 in two out of the three T20 matches against South Africa and is playing with huge confidence and making some great decisions with his team.

The series before that Australia played Pakistan in November of 2019 and were superb in both the games that went ahead. Australia won 2-0 and were very convincing. Leading from the front Aaron Finch and David Warner played superbly as they chased down 108 without losing a wicket as they reach 109 in just under 12 overs over the final match.

In the 2nd match of the series, Steve Smith scored 80 not out in a brilliant batting performance as Australia reached their 151 targets losing just three wickets.

Looking at the bowling during the series two playing stood out. Kane Richardson was the key man in the final match as he took 3 wickets for just 18 runs. Sean Abbott and Mitchell Starc each got two wickets in a great bowling performance. In the 2nd match, Aston Agar was the top bowler taking two wickets for 23 runs which helped Australia to keep Pakistan to a manageable total.

Before the Pakistan series, Australia faced Sri Lanka who are one of the most feared T20 team s and they totally dominated in a three-nil whitewash. This was the start of Australia’s progression as a T20 force.

David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Glenn Maxwell all scored well with Warner the main player scoring exactly 100 and Finch and Maxwell half-centuries. Adam Zampa as the star with the ball taking three wickets.

The 2nd match of the series Adam Zampa again shone along with Ashton Agar who helped restrict Sri Lanka to 117 all out. The reply from Australia was emphatic as David Warner and Steve Smith ensured another easy victory as Australia lost only one wicket as they reached their target in just 13 overs.

The final match of the series was the closest match, however with David Warner in fine form he hit 57 from 50 balls as Australia reached their target in just under 18 overs to outclass Sri Lanka.
