Team India on Saturday achieved an unfortunate record as they ended up with their lowest score in Test history on Day 3 of the first match of the Border-Gavaskar series in Adelaide.

India were well on top of the hosts after the second day as they reached 9 for 1 at stumps in their second innings with a lead of 62 runs.

But the whole match turned on its head in the first hour of play on Day 3 as Australia picked up 8 wickets in the first session to restrict India to 36 for 9 in 21.2 overs to get right back in the Pink-ball Test. Their previous lowest total was 42 all out in the Lord's Test against England on June 20, 1974.

Indians cricket fans woke up to a rude shock as the team lost 8 wickets for 27 runs with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood running riot at the Adelaide Oval.

"19/6 , the earliest 6 wickets India have lost in their test history. Surrender kar diye bilkul yaar. Par thodi umeed abhi bhi karni chahiye, kya pata, kuch jaadoo ho jaaye," Sehwag tweeted.

Cummins started the collapse with the wicket of nightwatchman Jasprit Bumrah in the second over of the day before Josh Hazlewood removed Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane in the same over.

Cummins got the big wicket of Virat Kohli for 4 to reduce India to 19 for 6, which is their lowest total in Test history after the loss of six wickets.

The wickets continued to tumble as Hazlewood completed his five-for haul and reached 200 scalps in Test cricket after removing Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin in the same over before getting Hanuma Vihari for 8.

A Cummins bouncer then hit Mohammed Shami on his right hand which forced him to retire hurt. None of the Indian batsmen could manage double figures, which is only the second instance after 1924.

Hazlewood and Cummins finished with figures of 5 for 8 and 4 for 21 respectively with Australia needing 90 runs to win the first Test and go 1-0 up in the four-match series.
