IPL 2021: 4 Major Rules Changed By The BCCI In IPL 14
BCCI has made some major rule changes for the upcoming IPL season. The much-debated 'soft signal' rule will no more be a part of IPL 14.
The New IPL season is just around the corner, and the Board Of Control For Cricket (BCCI) has made some major rule changes for the upcoming IPL season. The 'soft signal' rule has been removed; the much-debated rule was recently criticised by Indian skipper Virat Kohli during the Ind Vs Eng T20I series.
As per the updated playing conditions for IPL 2021, here are the four major changes you should know about:
Soft Signal:
As per the new rules, on-field umpires will not have the right to give a 'soft signal' before referring to the decision, before this, if the umpire used to refer to the third umpire for a decision, then he had to give a 'soft signal'. The ‘Umpires Call’ rule which is infused in the DRS system will stand in the IPL.
Short Run and No Ball:
Now, the third umpire will also be able to change the no-ball and short-run decisions of the on-field umpire.
Minimum Over Rate:
As per clause 12.7.1, "The minimum over the rate to be achieved in IPL Matches shall be 14.11 overs per hour (ignoring the time taken by time-outs). In uninterrupted matches, this means that the 20th over should finish within 90 minutes (being 85 minutes of playing time plus 5 minutes of time-out) of the start of the innings. For delayed or interrupted matches where an innings is scheduled to be less than 20 overs, the maximum time of 90 minutes shall be reduced by 4 minutes 15 seconds for every over by which the innings is reduced."
Super Over:
In an uninterrupted match, there will be subsequent super overs played till an hour from the actual finished time of the tied matches, states (Clause 16.3.1).
