IPL 2021 had to be postponed due to the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in India. The IPL had to be postponed midway after several players and support staff tested positive for Covid-19. A total of 69 matches were scheduled in this season of IPL, but only 29 could be played. The final was to be held on 30 May.

The remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 are being said to be held in September. The BCCI is also pushing for the remaining matches of IPL 2021 to make up for the loss. Meanwhile, big news regarding the New Zealand players who featured in IPL 14 is coming out.

If the IPL is held before the T20 World Cup, it may be difficult for some New Zealand players to play. The New Zealand team is scheduled to play a series against Pakistan in the UAE in September, this series is part of the Future Tour Program (FTP), which cannot be cancelled or postponed. The NZ players will also require to stick to Covid-19 isolation protocol and in that case, they can't reach India for the remaining matches of IPL. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been named captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He can also be prohibited from playing and something similar can happen with Trent Boult.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's Kane Williamson, Mumbai Indians' Adam Milne and Trent Boult, Chennai Super Kings' Mitchell Santner, Kolkata Knight Riders' Locky Ferguson and Tim Seifert, Royal Challengers Bangalore's Fin Allen and Kyle Jamieson are unlikely to make it to the second leg of IPL 2021.

Earlier, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced that English cricketers will not be available to play in the second leg of IPL 2021.
