Defending world champion PV Sindhu of India stormed into the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics women's singles badminton event. She defeated Denmark's world number 12 Mia Blichfeldt 21-15, 21-13 in a 41-minute bout in her round of 16 match. Sindhu will now face Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the quarterfinals. Sindhu troubled Blichfeldt by running across the court with her varied shots and ability to change pace.
Sindhu was putting pressure on Mia Blichfelt right from the start of the game. In the first game, she showed a great game and took an 11-6 lead; however, the Danish player also made a comeback and reduced the gap. Sindhu continued her brilliant game by scoring five consecutive points to win the match. Sindhu won the first game 21-15 in 22 minutes.
Sindh's dominance continued in the second game too. She was leading 5-0. However, during this time Mia tried her best to make a comeback. Sindhu took her lead to 11-6 with great shots. Mia got two points but it was not enough for her victory. Sindhu won the second game in 19 minutes by a score of 21-13.

India's star badminton player PV Sindhu made a place in the pre-quarterfinals of women's singles by defeating Hong Kong's NY Cheung in Group J here on Wednesday. Rio Olympic silver medalist Sindhu defeated world number 34 Cheung 21-9, 21-16 in a 35-minute bout to top the group. This was Sindhu's sixth win in six matches against Cheung.
