Indian Sportspersons and their contribution to the society
Many youngsters look up to the sports persons of the country, not only on the field but also what they do for the society and that is what they emulate and leads to betterment of the society.
India has produced a number of sports persons over the years who have made the country proud all over the world. These have become role models and are looked upon by the youth of the nation. A real sportsperson , who once represents the country always wants to give something back to the nation. While many try to find time from their busy schedule during playing days, others have dedicated their life to the social issues post retirement. In India, especially cricketers make a lot of money and it is common question among the fans that what their heroes do for the commom people. Lets take a glance at some of the notable sports persons in India who have been involved in activities for the betterment of the society.
1. Gautam Gambhir - Cricketer Gautam Gambhir is known for taking a strong stand on social issues and has often raised his voice for Indian soldiers. He has also set up the Gautam Gambhir Foundation which is involved in various philanthropic activities. The foundation has started a free community kitchen in order to help the poor and beat hunger.
2. Yuvraj Singh- After winning the battle with cancer, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh formed the “YouWeCan,” to tackle cancer at the premature stage. The aim of the initiative is two fold: To create awareness and eradicate the socio- psychological stigma attached with cancer and provide mobile cancer examination stations within the reach of masses with a view to make routine check- ups a habit.
3. Milkha Singh- Field sprinter and a great athlete, Milkha Singh made history the world of sports with his monumental career. He has worked towards helping those sportspersons who are poor and need aid to get trained. He is supporting all those who dream of making the nation proud with their achievements in the field.
4. PT Usha- PT Usha currently coaches young athletes at Usha School of Athletics at Koyilandy in Kerala. She was chosen by the Kerala State Government to run a sporting school for women and has been doing it till date. As an academy committed to promotion and practice of sports at all possible levels without any discrimination and with total transparency, Usha School intends to facilitate a safe and positive environment for athletes to nurture their talents.
5. Ravichandran Ashwin – Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin set up the ‘The Ashwin Foundation’ and the primary objective of the Foundation is eye care and eye donation, followed by the importance of blood donation, road safety and safe driving, 100 per cent voters' turnout during elections.
