The first Indian bowler to pick up three on the trot was Chetan Sharma. In the 1987 Reliance World Cup, Sharma took the first hat-trick in the history of the tournament when he clean bowled Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith and Ewen Chatfield of New Zealand off consecutive balls.
The second was from another Indian great Kapil Dev and this happened in the year 1991 in the final of the Asia Cup. Indian were playing Sri Lanka and world cup winning captain made history with back-to-back wickets of Roshan Mahanama (caught behind), Rumesh Ratnayake (lbw) and Sanath Jayasuriya (caught Manjrekar).
