ICC World Cup 2019: Here's Virat Kohli's strongest side of the tournament
Indian Captain Virat Kohli who termed ICC world Cup 2019 as ‘most competitive World Cup that anyone will have seen,’ on Thursday picked up the strongest side of the tournament. Kohli said England would be the "most strong side" in their conditions in the world tournament.
“England in their conditions are the most strong side in this tournament. But all the teams so strong and well balanced and the fact we have to play everyone once, I think this will be the most competitive World Cup that anyone will have seen,” Kohli said at the official captains’ media conference.
ICC World Cup will begin from May 30 England will play the first match of World Cup 2019 against South Africa on May 30 at The Oval with India playing its first match on June 5 against South Africa. The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals.
Kohli hailed England's solid hitters who scored 350 plus total in all the matches against Pakistan.
“They [England] seem to be obsessed with getting to 500 before anyone else,” Kohli said. “They smash it from ball one and for the full 50 overs.
“It could be pretty high-scoring, but 260/270 is going to be as difficult to get as chasing 370, 380 in a World Cup.”
The Indian captain, however, went on to state that scoring might not be easy in the latter half of the tournament.
“I don’t see too much high-scoring in the later half of the tournament,” Kohli added.
“When you get closer to the knockout phases, that is going to bring greater pressure and no-one is going to go gung-ho from ball one. Generally, teams will find a way, but I see pressure playing a massive role,” Kohli added.
