Sydney: In a good news for Indian cricket team, star opener Rohit Sharma has cleared the fitness test at National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. The 33-year-old had incurred a hamstring injury during the IPL 2020 and thus failed to travel with the Indian contingent which left for the all-important Australia series from UAE.

It has been learnt that Rohit Sharma has now cleared the required tests in front of NCA chief Rahul Dravid and is all set to face the rigours of international cricket. The right-hander is set to leave for Australia on December 14. Rohit Sharma will have to serve the mandatory 14-day quarantine period upon reaching Australia. This would mean that he would be ready to feature in the third Test which starts in Sydney from January 7. Earlier, sources have told India Today that Rohit is recovering well from the hamstring injury and looking set to fly to Australia.

Rohit Sharma's hamstring is "much, much better" and he will be boarding the flight to Australia on December 12, provided he clears the assessment on the previous day. Rohit has also been focusing on strength building at the NCA. Rohit is likely to have a 14-day hard quarantine if he manages to reach Australia. After a week of training, the India opener is expected to be ready for the 3rd Test, which gets underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 7.

Rohit's availability is key to India's chances of making a mark in the Test series as skipper Virat Kohli will not be available after the series opener - a day-night fixture in Adelaide, starting December 17. Kohli will be returning home to be with his wife and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma for the birth of their child.
