New Zealand opener Devon Conway broke former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly's record of scoring the most runs in a Test debut by scoring a century in his Test debut.

Conway made an unbeaten 136 in his debut Test against England on Wednesday, the first day of the first Test at Lord's. Ganguly had scored 131 runs during his debut Test at Lord's during the 1996 tour of England.

Apart from Conway and Ganguly, four other batsmen have also scored centuries in their debut Tests at Lord's. Conway became the third overseas batsman to score a century in his debut match at Lord's. Harry Graham (1893) and Sourav Ganguly (1996) have achieved this feat before him.

Conway said after the first day's play, "It's a wonderful moment for me. I couldn't have thought of a better start to my Test career. I had a conversation with New Zealand captain Kane Williamson a few days back and I asked him what it's like to be on the honour board? And the first thing he said to me was 'Now you know.

Williamson has also scored a century at Lord's. Conway is South African by birth and lived in Johannesburg until he arrived in New Zealand in 2017. He said, 'It is a very special feeling to have this opportunity. Of course, I didn't think about it when I stepped out. I am making my Test debut now, getting a chance to play at this level. I am very grateful for the opportunities Wellington has given me.
