Ronaldo thought he scored the goal in the dying seconds of the injury time but the referee failed to spot the ball over the goal line before Stefan Mitrovic cleared it. Later, Ronaldo threw the captain's armband in anger and left the field.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) or goalline technology were not available at the Stadium, which proved costly for the Portuguese side as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw instead of winning the match.
Liverpool's Diogo Jota netted two headers in the first half of the game after the Serbians managed to equalise with two goals in the second half.
The global star expressed his frustration on Instagram after the game.
“Being captain of the Portugal team is one of the greatest pride and privileges of my life,”
“I always give and will give everything for my country, that will never change. But there are difficult times to deal with, especially when we feel that an entire nation is being harmed.
“Lift your head and face the next challenge now! Come on, Portugal!” he wrote.
