FIFA U-17 World Cup: India coach forced to bring last minute change to the squad
In a blow to the Indian side ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, one of the most promising players in the team had to be dropped from the squad after MRI results showed that he was above the stipulated age.
When it is a big tournament and that too at your home country, all the players are full of enthusiasm and committed to give their best in front of home crowd. In a blow to the Indian side ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, one of the most promising players in the team had to be dropped from the squad after MRI results showed that he was above the stipulated age.
"When the MRI was done, it showed complete fusion of the player's wrist. Doctors said he had registered a Grade 6, which means he was considered older than 17. FIFA rules also stipulate that if you register a Grade 6, you are not allowed to participate," said an official.
According to the rules-
All players participating at the upcoming World Cup should be a maximum of 17 years old by the end of 2017.
Only those players born on or after January 1, 2000 and not later than December 31, 2002 are eligible to participate.
Quite interestingly, all players had been cleared when the AIFF had conducted similar tests were conducted some six months back.
