Everton has agreed on a deal to sign Swansea City dynamic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson for a fee believed to be about 45 million pounds. The 27-year-old had a terrific 2016/17 campaign, scoring 9 goals and provided 13 assists to help his side avoid relegation. The Iceland international's contribution was significant last season as he single-handedly kept his club up last season.

Sigurdsson will finalise his move to Goodison Park after he completes his medical on Wednesday and is expected to be unveiled to the Goodison Park crowd ahead of Thursday's Europa League tie with Hajduk Split.

He will be a record signing for Everton, who paid 31 million pounds to Chelsea for striker Romelu Lukaku in 2014. They have enjoyed a productive transfer window, re-signing Wayne Rooney from Manchester United and spending a potential £30m each on centre back Michael Keane and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Midfielder Davy Klaassen also arrived from Ajax for £23.6m and striker Sandro Ramirez from Malaga for £5.2m.

The whole Sigurdsson saga dragged on for quite a bit, Swansea had set an asking price of 50 million pounds in July after rejecting an offer worth about 40 million from Leicester City. There was host of teams that wanted the Iceland international, after Leicester, the Welsh club then turned down a similar bid from Toffees, who are believed to be interested in signing the playmaker for more than a year. Finally, the two clubs reached an agreement and the deal is set to go through.

Sigurdsson has scored 34 goals for Swansea in the Premier League (top scorer Premier League) since joining the Welsh club from Spurs.
