Results from Day 7 of 8th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2018

In a Pool A match, Sports Authority of India won their third match out of the four matches as they beat a hapless Tripura Hockey side 13-0. Abhishek (20', 28', 39') and Pramod (22', 38', 53') scored hat-tricks for Sports Authority of India while seven different players scored a goal each for the victors, namely Pravakar Minz (8'), captain Harshal Sharma (24'), Ravi (29'), Manish Sharma (40'), P Surya Prakash (43'), B N Sridhar (50') and Vikram (60').


Action in the 8th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2018 (B Division) continued today into its seventh day with Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, Sports Authority of Gujarat - Hockey Academy, Bengaluru Hockey Association, Sports Authority of India and Goans Hockey, all registering victories in their respective Pool matches.

In the opening match of the day, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu beat Manipur Hockey 4-1 to register their place in the quarterfinal of the competition as they topped their Pool D with a tally of 7 points while Manipur Hockey finished on the 3rd spot in their Pool. In the match, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu took a 3-0 lead to give themselves the chance to top the group and then rounded off with a fourth goal in the 57th minute while Manipur Hockey could only score once in the 55th minute through Ibungo Singh Konjengbam. Goals for Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu were scored by H Hariharan (23'), S Silverstalin (25'), G Saravanakumar (50') and S Niranjan Sai Ganesh (57').

The second Pool D match of the day was a dead rubber as neither of the two teams could top the group after Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu's victory. However, Sports Authority of Gujarat - Hockey Academy played to their potential and scored a 16-1 victory over  Hockey Gujarat to finish second in Pool D with six points, while Hockey Gujarat finished at the bottom with a solitary point. Goals from Sports Authority of Gujarat - Hockey Academy were scored by Ruchit Patel (4', 17', 39', 41', 49', 52', 52'), Pankaj Vaja (18', 21'), Dhruvil Patel (21', 38'), Shyamprakash Yadav (19', 51'), Nikal Asari (44'), Vaibhav Shah (59') and Sumit Patil (60') while Krushnarajsinh Zala (46') scored for Hockey Gujarat.

In a Pool E match, Bengaluru Hockey Association registered their place in the quarterfinal as they topped their Pool with three wins out of three matches as they beat Hockey Puducherry 5-2 in what was the decided for the top-spot. It was the Bengaluru Hockey Association who started the match well as they scored their first in the 23rd minute to break the deadlock. However, Hockey Puducherry struck three minutes later to equalize but Bengaluru Hockey Association showed their quality as they struck four more times to stamp their authority while Hockey Puducherry struck again in the last minute. HT Ramesh (23', 30') and N Honnur Swamy (40', 57') struck braces for Bengaluru Hockey Association while Rama Shankar (58') also scored a goal. The two goals for Hockey Puducherry were scored by S Muthukrishnan (26', 60').

In another dead rubber in Pool E, it was Goans Hockey who registered their first victory of the competition by beating a win-less Hockey Bihar 4-3. The match was well contested between the two sides but it was Goans Hockey who took the initiative and led 3-0 after 26 minutes. But Hockey Bihar did not give up and pulled two goals back in two minutes which were also separated by a Goans Hockey goal in the 43rd minute, making the scores 4-2 in the latter's favour. Hockey Bihar threatened in the latter stages of the match and scored a third goal in the 50th minute to make it a nervy last 10 minutes. Goals for Goans Hockey were scored by Naresh Patil (7', 13'), Suraj Gaonkar (26') and Ayyaz Khan (43') while Vinay Xess (42'), Samu Hassa (43') and Shambhu Kumar (50') scored for Hockey Bihar.
