BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has confirmed that

29 matches were played in the first leg. The remaining 31 matches will now be played in the United Arab Emirates. Anticipating inclement weather in September and October, the BCCI decided to shift the T20 league to the UAE. The remaining matches of the IPL 2021 in UAE can be held from 19 or 20 September, with the final match to be played in the UAE on 10 October.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the completion of the remaining matches of the IPL 2021 season in the UAE in the months of September-October this year given the monsoon season in India," the BCCI said in a statement. This decision was taken at the Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Saturday, where the members unanimously agreed to resume the IPL.

BCCI will also talk to the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the T20 World Cup to be held in India in October-November. The statement further said, "The BCCI's SGM has requested the officials to extend the time to the ICC to take an appropriate decision on the hosting of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021".

The remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 will be split into 10 double headers, 7 single headers and 4 playoffs, which will be fit into the 21-day window the BCCI hopes to create before the ICC T20 World Cup; however, sources have said that it will be difficult to bring back foreign players.
