IPL 2021 final may shift to Oct 15, latest on Phase 2 schedule

IPL 14 will start again from September 19 and the final match will be played on October 15 on the eve of Dussehra in the country..

The second phase of the 14th season of IPL will be played in the UAE in September-October. BCCI was brainstorming on its new schedule for several days; meanwhile, a BCCI official has cleared the air on the schedule.

A BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity, “IPL Phase 2 will be held from September 15 to October 15. Initially, BCCI was thinking of 10 double headers but 10 matches in the afternoon in the third and fourth week of September can be very tiring for the players in such a short span of time.

"So, if Friday, October 15 is chosen, it will be the start of the weekend in India and a holiday in Dubai, giving fans a chance to come and enjoy some exciting cricket on the field," he said.

Currently, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, Acting CEO Hemang Amin, Treasurer Arun Dhumal, Joint Secretary Jayesh George and IPL President Brijesh Patel are in the UAE to finalize the arrangements.

Secretary Jay Shah has returned to India after inspecting several meeting and venues with Emirates Cricket Board officials.

The Indian team will play the final Test in Manchester and if it goes on till the fifth day, it will end on 14 September. The next day IPL players from India will reach Dubai from Manchester by a chartered plane.

Indian players could face three days of strict isolation in the UAE but could also be exempted as they'll come from the biologically safe environment of the UK.
