India's first Olympic super heavyweight (plus 91kg) boxer, Satish Kumar, defeated Jamaica's Ricardo Browne in his first game to enter the quarterfinals. This is the first Olympics for both the boxers. Satish registered a 4-1 win despite a divided decision.

Where he will now compete with the number one seed Uzbekistan's boxer. That is, the challenge will be bigger. In Round of 16, Satish Kumar of India won the first round 30-27. In the second round too, he won 30-27. However, Jamaican boxer Ricardo Brown returned in the third round and won 29–28. After this, Satish won the fourth round by 30-27, while in the fifth round he was ahead 30-26.
This is the first time that an Indian boxer is representing India in an Olympic event in the heavyweight category. And seeing the way Satish Kumar fought in the Olympic ring in his very first match, medal hopes are high.

A resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, Satish is in the army and used to play Kabaddi earlier. Seeing his good stature, the army coaches gave him a chance to play boxing. Brown, the first Jamaican boxer to qualify for the Olympics since 1996, was the flag bearer of his country at the opening ceremony.
