The Indian women's hockey team has lost in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics. They have been defeated by Argentina 2-1. The Indian team reached the semi-finals of the Olympics for the first time. Now Argentina will face the Netherlands in the final. The Dutch team defeated Great Britain 5–1 in the first semi-final. The Netherlands has made it to the Olympic final for the fifth time in a row. The gold medal match will be played on August 6. At the same time, the Indian team will play against Great Britain for the bronze medal. This match will also take place on 6th August.
Captain Maria Noe scored two excellent goals for Argentina. At the same time, Gurjit Kaur scored only one goal for India. The score of both the teams was 1-1 at the end of first half. Both India and Argentina played brilliant hockey in this 30-minute game. There was a fierce competition between the two, but as the game progressed, the big opposition team performed well and won the match 2-1.

The Indian women's hockey team's previous best performance in the Olympics was at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, when it finished fourth out of six teams. Women's hockey then made its Olympic debut and matches were played on a round-robin basis, with the top two teams reaching the finals.
