‘No duty doctor took part in GH protest’

He made the submissions on a plea moved by C. Kumaran, seeking appropriate action against the medical students, duty doctors and house-surgeons attached to RGGGH. GH dean K. Narayanasamy appeared in person before Justice N. Kirubakaran and clarified that proper treatment was provided to patients as usual on March 16 when the protest was staged. The Dean of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) has informed the Madras High Court that only medical students participated in a recent protest staged on the hospital premises over an altercation with the attenders of some patients and that no duty doctors were involved. Admitting the plea on March 17, the judge had directed the Dean to respond to the allegation and sought some other details including the present strength of doctors, vacancies if any, the number of medical students and house surgeons attached to the hospital and the budgetary allocation for the Madras Medical College.
