Police zero in on two suspects in murder case

Meanwhile the police on Sunday arrested and removed around 70 people who staged a protest condemning the murder of Farooq. As a member of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam, Farooq had made posts on social media professing atheism which had invited criticism from several religious groups and individuals. According to police, one of the suspects identified by them could have procured the SIM card and called Farooq.

The police said that the duo are residents of Ukkadam and relatives of one of the accused in Coimbatore serial blasts case. The cops are on search for two other people who had role in the murder. The police have also traced the mobile number from which Farooq had received a call on Thursday night and left his home on two-wheeler. Documents submitted for getting the SIM card was of Thajuddin of Velur. However, it is learnt that Thajuddin had not taken the SIM card but someone else did using his identification documents. According to police, one of the suspects identified by them could have procured the SIM card and called Farooq. M. Arshad of Sriram Nagar, Podanur, had surrendered at the Judicial Magistrate VI court on Friday evening claiming role in the murder. The police have moved the court seeking his custody for further investigation in the case. A resident of Bilas Estate, Ukkadam and scrap merchant by profession, Farooq was hacked to death near sewage farm of Coimbatore Corporation. As a member of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam, Farooq had made posts on social media professing atheism which had invited criticism from several religious groups and individuals. Meanwhile the police on Sunday arrested and removed around 70 people who staged a protest condemning the murder of Farooq. Members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Aadi Tamizhar Katchi, Samooga Neethi Katchi, and Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi took part in the protest for which the police had denied permission.
