10 coaches of goods train derails in Unnao

The second train accident had taken place on December 28 in which 62 passengers had got injured, luckily there was no casualty. This train accident had turned out to be one of the worst accidents in the recent years. As many as 10 coaches of the train had skidded off the tracks blocking the train movement on the down track of Kanpur-Lucknow route. The back-to back incidents of train derailment has left railway administration worried.Talking to TOI, SHO, Government Railway Police (GRP), Unnao railway station, Chandraprakash Singh said that there was neither any casualty nor anyone was injured due to the derailment of the goods train. KANPUR: After two back to back incidents of train derailment in the region, a goods train which was heading towards Lucknow from Kanpur derailed on Thursday evening at around 5.40 pm soon after it cossed Shuklaganj railway station. As many as 10 coaches of the train had skidded off the tracks blocking the train movement on the down track of Kanpur-Lucknow route. There was no casualty, neither anyone was hurt. The cause of the derailment is yet not clear but initial probe hints at track fracture.The coaches of the goods train had both scattered on the fields next to the tracks and also crashed into each other. They got reduced to debris. The wheels of the bogies had broken. The tracks had suffered substantial damage. The Over-Head Equipment (OHE) had also suffered massive damage. Due to the strong jerk, the coupling of the bogies got ripped apart and the train got divided into two parts. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) had cordoned off the area. Had it been a passenger train, the derailment would have caused loss of lives or left many others injured. The back-to back incidents of train derailment has left railway administration worried.Talking to TOI, SHO, Government Railway Police (GRP), Unnao railway station, Chandraprakash Singh said that there was neither any casualty nor anyone was injured due to the derailment of the goods train. He said that the accident occured at 5.40 pm disrupting the movement of the trains on the down track of the busy Lucknow-Kanpur route. He informed that the Up line is functional. He mentioned that the prima facie it appears that there was fracture in the track which caused the incident.When asked about the exact location of the accident, the GRP official said that the train derailed four kilometers away from Shuklaganj station at gate number 40 near Sehjani while it was heading towards Lucknow after departing from Kanpur central railway station.Senior railway officials of Northern Railway including the Divisional Railway Manager had reached the accident site and were conducting the probe to find out the cause of the accident. The train driver, co-driver and the guard were also present at the spot. The railways are likely to order a probe to ascertain the cause of the derailment.The railway sources informed that it will take time to restore the Down track as not only the tracks have suffered massive damage but also the Over Head Equipment (OHE) were in shambles. This is yet another loss of infrastructure to the railways.Due to the accident, the movement of the trains between Kanpur and Lucknow got badly affected. The trains had been stationed at Kanpur Central. Those which were on the way to Kanpur from Lucknow had been stopped on the way. A number of the trains had to be diverted. Some of the them had been partially cancelled. It will only after the debris of the goods train is removed, tracks are repaired and OHE is maintained, the movement of the trains between Lucknow-Kanpur and vice-versa is not possible.This was third train accident in the region. One after the other, three train accidents have raised a question mark over the quality of the tracks. Sources said that the first two accidents that had occured in Kanpur Dehat district, track fracture was the cause of the mishap. The probe in both the accidents is still in progress. Now a third train accident has occured which will force the railways to get a probe conducted to know the exact of derailment.It was on November 20 that Indore-Patna Rajendra Nagar express had derailed near Pukhrayan in Kanpur Dehat which had caused death of 152 passengers and left around 300 injured. This train accident had turned out to be one of the worst accidents in the recent years. In the second accident Sealdah-Ajmer express had derailed at Rura station in Kanpur Dehat.Detection of missing fish plates and elastic rail clips on the tracks near Kanpur in poll-bound UP on January 1, a day ahead of PM Narendra Modi's Lucknow rally, has already prompted the railways to seek a CBI inquiry into a suspected sabotage bid. The railways had taken this incident to be very seriously and therefore, it decided to get a CBI inquiry conducted.
