KMC plans pre-monsoon drainage drive

"Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT), KMC has laid a new drainage pipeline of 75km in Shivaji Peth, Mangalwar Peth, Budhwar Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Rajarampuri and Shahupuri areas.The drainage line passing through the sub urban areas are in a bad condition.

KOLHAPUR: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) will be starting a pre-monsoon cleaning of drains , canals and culverts to check water logging in the city.The three month long drive will start from the first week of March.Last year, the city witnessed heavy rains which led to flood like situation in most parts of the city. It was found that since the disposal of plastics were improper; it created havoc like situation for commuters to travel during monsoon.Chief sanitation inspector of KMC, Vijay Patil said, "The city has over 200 km long underground drainage and over 50% of the drainage is old and needs to be repaired. KMC has proposed pipeline work of around Rs 62 crore in these areas.
