more-in KOCHI: The Cochin University College of Engineering, Kuttanad, under the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), will soon get a face-lift. The steps being taken by the varsity to improve infrastructure on the campus include provision of proper hostel facilities for students. “The university will take hostels outside on lease. Hostels for girls are ready. For boys, we plan to open two hostels soon,” said J. Letha, Vice Chancellor. Lab infrastructure will also get a boost, with the authorities planning to purchase new equipment for various engineering branches. Facilities for the departments of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering will also be improved. Dr. Letha said steps had been taken to ensure the safety of students on the campus. A compound wall will be built. The varsity had earlier resolved to provide a three-metre road access for local residents. Steps to demarcate the varsity land are complete, she added. Besides, students will be given Wi-Fi access soon. They can also avail the centralised placement opportunities available on the main campus at Thrikkakara. Students had earlier complained of being excluded from the recruitment process held on the main campus. The library will remain open till 6 p.m. Cusat has also sought the co-operation of Thomas Chandy, MLA, in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Kuttanad campus. They have urged him to take steps to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the college.
