'Police atrocities top Karnataka Human Rights complaint list'

MANGALURU: Nearly 60% of the complaints that Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) received in Bengaluru are related to police atrocities, said commission member C G Hunagunda. Issues related to human rights are being discussed more nowadays due to increase in awareness," Hunagunda said.He told the students that humanity is the most important quality that human beings require to ensure human rights in society. Behind every human rights violation, there is a human being," he said and called upon students to uphold the values of the Indian Constitution. Human rights is an issue that is being debated in the world since ancient times. We need to inculcate human culture along with social media culture.

MANGALURU: Nearly 60% of the complaints that Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) received in Bengaluru are related to police atrocities, said commission member C G Hunagunda. Meanwhile, 45-50% of the complaints that commission receives in the state are related to police atrocities, he said, pointing out that the number of complaints related to police atrocities are more in Bengaluru compared to the state average.He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on 'Human Rights Awareness' organized by the Human Rights Federation of India, Human Rights Association, Humanities Association and Women's Forum of University College here on Monday. "We are not sure if all complaints are genuine or not. We have been receiving complaints related to police atrocities everywhere in the state. Human rights is an issue that is being debated in the world since ancient times. Issues related to human rights are being discussed more nowadays due to increase in awareness," Hunagunda said.He told the students that humanity is the most important quality that human beings require to ensure human rights in society."Young generation now lives in the Facebook and Whatsapp culture. We need to inculcate human culture along with social media culture. We talk about modernization, liberalization and privatization. In fact, we need to talk about humanization. Behind every human rights violation, there is a human being," he said and called upon students to uphold the values of the Indian Constitution.
