AI may take flight from Ozar to Hyderabad, Surat

Nashik: The Ozar airport may soon find an opportunity to resume services as Air India (AI) has shown interest to start flights from here to Hyderabad and Surat Recently, Nashik MP Hemant Godse met Air India chairman Ashwani Lohani in New Delhi and discussed the feasibility for the state-owned carrier to commence flights from the Ozar airport.Godse said Lohani has given positive indications to commence flights from the Ozar airport here to Hyderabad and Surat.The airline company was unable to operate the Mumbai-Nashik flight in May last year due to lack of slot at the airport in the country's financial capital. More recently, Air India had expressed its inability to commence air service from Nashik.Nashik industries have already announced that it will sign a loyalty programme with any airline company which starts services from Nashik.Godse told TOI, "There is no slot available at the Mumbai airport. But there are other destinations that have air service potential from Nashik. As per the announcement for 2016-17 in the Air India booklet, Nashik connectivity has been mentioned. I had a meeting with the Air India chairman Ashwani Lohani about the commencement of air services from Nashik and he is positive for flights to Hyderabad and Surat."The proposal to start flights from Nashik to Hyderabad and Surat has been submitted by the Nashik Industries & Manufacturers' Association (Nima).Nima vice-president Mangesh Patankar said, "The airport terminal at Ozar is ready for long with no air service. As per our recent survey, there is a huge potential for the air service from Nashik as close to 65,000 people in a year fly from here and a bulk of them travel to Hyderabad, Surat, Bangalore and Mumbai to board flights. So, we have submitted a proposal to Air India to start air services from Nashik to these two destinations."Patankar added that they are ready to sign the loyalty programme with Air India with the assurance of booking some seats if it commences air service. "The ratio will be decided later via discussions with the company," he said.
