Patna DM to MVIs: Inspect all boats in district

PATNA: District magistrate (DM) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal on Monday asked the motor vehicle inspectors (MVI) to inspect all the boats plying in the Ganga and other water bodies and set up registration camps for them. The MVIs were also asked to ensure compliance of rules by the boat owners.“Only boats registered with the district transport office will be allowed to ply on the water bodies from now on. “Boats cannot ply on water bodies after sunset. Strict action will be taken against the violators,” he added.Human chain: The DM revealed that over 8 lakh people are expected to participate in the in 400km human chain event on January 21 in Patna district. The river police station at Fatuha will also be developed in due course of time to ensure that rules are followed.

Registration camps will also be organized so that the boat owners do not face any problem,” said the DM, adding at least 100 boats were registered with the transport office during 2011-2012.Agarwal further said the name and the contact number of the owner would have to be written on the boat to identify him. “Boats cannot ply on water bodies after sunset. The river police station at Fatuha will also be developed in due course of time to ensure that rules are followed. Strict action will be taken against the violators,” he added.Human chain: The DM revealed that over 8 lakh people are expected to participate in the in 400km human chain event on January 21 in Patna district. “We will ensure that the safety and security of the participants is taken care of by police. We will also tie up with the private hospitals that fall on the route of the human chain for emergency cases,” he said.
