21-month long ‘Emergency’ was withdrawal on March 21, 1977. Under the Prime Ministerialship of Indira Gandhi, the ‘Emergency’ was declared. It was termed as anti-democratic move. During the Emergency, opposition leaders were put behind the jail.

First time after Independence, India got her first non-Congress government.  Janata alliance won General election with 298  seats. Morarji Desai became Prime Minister of India.
