Summary:

Swara has been heavily trolled on Twitter for this open letter. However, Swara is firm on her stand and feels that she has a  right to express her views freely in a democratic society.

Swara Bhaskar’s open letter on ‘Padmaavat’ raised eyebrows in B-town, recently. All this while Swara is busy in giving explanation about her letter, Deepika Padukone has come out to speak on the same.

Slamming the actress in an interview with a leading daily, Deepika said, “She probably missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the film. You probably went out to buy some popcorn and missed the initial disclaimers that come out. I think, secondly, the fact that it is important to view a film in totality and to see in which period it was set in. Third of all, I think for me this film is not just about the act (jauhar) that they all committed, but it stood for so much more. For me, it’s a celebration of women and their strength, power and dignity.”

Here's an excerpt from Swara's open letter,

"I felt like a vagina. I felt reduced to a vagina-only... Women are not only walking talking vaginas. Yes, women have vaginas, but they have more to them as well. So their whole life need not be focused on the vagina, and controlling it, protecting it, maintaining its purity. (Maybe in the 13th century that was the case, but in the 21st century we do not need to subscribe to these limiting ideas. We certainly do not need to glorify them."

Swara has been heavily trolled on Twitter for this open letter. However, Swara is firm on her stand and feels that she has a  right to express her views freely in a democratic society.

"Everybody has a right to an opinion. Like I am entitled to an opinion, so is everyone else. I put forth my point of view. I feel I put across my point of view in a polite and respectful manner. I did not have any vicious intent. I had legitimate questions after watching the film and I raised those. If people don’t agree with me, it’s alright as it is democratic country. I had no idea that this would create such a mayhem and that people who are not connected to the film at all will get upset,”

Well, after Deepika's reply, we wonder what Swara has to say about it?
