Summary:

He was a known personality in the theatre space as well, especially for the play ‘Tumhari Amrita’ with Shabana Azmi which delighted audiences for over 20 years.

It is Farooque Sheikh’s 70th birth anniversary and Google remembered late actor with a doodle styled on hand-painted movie posters of the 70s especially ‘Umrao Jaan’.

Born on 25th March 1948, Farooque grew up in a simple, middle-class household in Mumbai. He studied law while continuing to dabble in theatre on the side and eventually decided to take up acting as a career permanently (thank god he did).

Debuting with ‘Garam Hawa’ in 1973, Farooque essayed many commendable roles in his career and won over millions of hearts with his shy and reserved character in film ‘Chashme Buddoor’, superb comic timing in ‘Kissi Se Na Kehna’, and his helplessness and loss in ‘Bazaar’.

He was a known personality in the theatre space as well, especially for the play ‘Tumhari Amrita’ with Shabana Azmi which delighted audiences for over 20 years.

He was very famous for his work in TV with shows like ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’ and ‘Chamatkar’.

Farooque Sheikh was one of the few actors who could pull of both mainstream as well as arthouse cinema roles. When the stars of that era were running behind the cliché action based roles, Farooque’s mature romantic hero image of 70s comfortably gelled well with the audiences.
