Summary:

Deepika’s costume in ‘Padmavati’ has become the hot topic and fashion ‘gurus’ are comparing it with Madhuri Dixit’s costume ‘lehenga’ from ‘Devdas’ which weighed around 30kgs. Are Deepika Padukone's costumes in Padmavati as heavy as Madhuri Dixit's costume in Devdas? The designer Rimple answers! Devdas is a very recent story. Though it’s a very old novel, the story of Padmavati is even older. Padmavati belongs to 11-12th century, so the fabrics that were used or the embroideries that were done were all handmade, as was the case back in the era.

Ever since ‘Padmavati’ trailer has been unveiled, we couldn’t stop gushing about her beauty and charm. Be it her unibrow look or heavy jewellery, every single thing had received equal attention.

But now her costume has become the hot topic of the tinsel town and fashion ‘gurus’ are comparing it with Madhuri Dixit’s ‘lehenga’ from ‘Devdas’ which weighed around 30kgs.

So did Deepika Padukone and her designer follow in Madhuri’s footsteps and designed a costume as heavy as hers?

Any guesses?

Clearing all your doubts, designer Rimple told  a leading tabloid, “We have tried our best to keep it as light as possible. Like I mentioned, Devdas is a very recent story. Though it’s a very old novel, the story of Padmavati is even older. It belongs to 11-12th century, so the fabrics that were used or the embroideries that were done were all handmade, as was the case back in the era. So there is no machine work nor have we used anything inorganic. We have only opted for organic fabrics.”

Further elaborating more, on her outfit, she said, “ Just because the fabrics are organic, they are airy. I have used mulls, chanderis and kotas. I tried to make them comfortable. But in the end, they are Indian garments and all our garments are a bit heavier than the western ones.”

Although this time Deepika’s costume isn’t heavy but in ‘Ram Leela’, she managed to dance in a lehenga which weighed almost 30kgs and in Bajirao Mastani, her armour weighed approximately 20kgs!

Well, our Bollywood girls should be awarded separately for wearing such heavy outfits?
