Maruti Suzuki domestic sales decline 54%, sold 52,300 units in June 2020

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) on Wednesday reported a decline of 53.8 percent at 52,300 units in June 2020 owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and lockdown restrictions. The sales stood at 113,031 unit sales in the same month last year.

The company’s total sales also saw a dip of 54 percent at 57,428 units in the month under review as compared to 124,708 units sold in June 2019.

Exports also declined 56.4 percent at 4,289 units last month as against 9,847 units in the corresponding month a year ago.

“The Company remains committed to the health, safety and well-being of all members across the value chain. Production across plants is being progressively increased consistent with maximum efforts to ensure safety and subject to the availability of employees,” Maruti Suzuki said in a statement.

For Q1 FY21 of April to June this year, the car maker reported total sales of 76,599 units. While domestic sales stood at 66,165 units, exports reported 9,572 units.

The company resumed its manufacturing operations post lockdown strictly in accordance with the Government regulations and guidelines, from May 12, 2020 at its Manesar facility and May 18, 2020 at its Gurugram facility.

The production also resumed at Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Limited (SMG) from May 25, 2020. SMG manufactures cars on a contract basis for Maruti Suzuki.

Likewise, the company’s showrooms opened in accordance with Centre and State guidelines in a graded manner across different cities.
