Price of Mahindra Thar to Increase by Rs 20,000-40,000

A price hike was announced by Mahindra & Mahindra recently, the list included the new Mahindra Thar. The increment in the ex-showroom prices of the Mahindra Thar ranges from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 depending on the variant. Following this price hike, Mahindra Thar range now starts from Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra launched the Thar in October 2020 at a starting price of Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base AX petrol manual soft-top variant. These entry-level variants are longer available and the Thar AX(O) petrol manual convertible top is now the cheapest version in the range at Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom), following the recent price hike.

Meanwhile, Automatic variants have witnessed the biggest jump with a price rise of Rs 40,000. With that, the range-topping Mahindra Thar LX diesel AT hardtop now retails for Rs 14.15 lakh. The popularity of the new Thar has exceeded the company`s expectations. It currently commands a waiting period of 10 months or even more in case of certain variants.

Mahindra Thar petrol is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that develops 150bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. Mahindra Thar diesel is powered by a 2.2-litre motor that churns out 130bhp and 300Nm of peak torque. Both engines are available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed AT (torque convertor) transmission choices. 4x4 is standard across the range.
