Summary:

Smokers are not just at high risk for respiratory issues and cancer, but also more prone to developing COVID than others. The Ministry of Health recently released an advisory regarding the same, warning smokers that they are more vulnerable to novel coronavirus, developing severe symptoms or succumb to it

The statement was released after officials concurred the existence of the risk from several doctors since the infection is a respiratory one, which not just impairs the lungs and other vital organs in the body.

Experts have also warned that not only do smokers form a part of the vulnerable category, they also run a high risk of transmission.

“Smoking, e-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, pan masala and like products can increase risk and severity of pulmonary infections because of damage to upper airways and a decrease in pulmonary immune function,” said the advisory.
