| Sunday | 22nd April, 2018

Summary:

Earth is a treasure we must protect for it is our abode, supplying surplus recourses.  But over the years we have been so negligent towards it, deteriorating every possible aspect, be it the air, water or energy. On this earth day, twitterati took to Twitter to call out to protect our mother earth.

April 22 is the day when people all across the globe involve themselves to celebrate Earth Day. In 1970 the day marks its inception as it was first celebrated in the United States.

It was brought to the forefront by Gaylord Nelson, a US senator from Wisconsin, after he had seen the devastation caused by an enormous oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969 and realized the implications of it. The day went on to be celebrated globally in the 1990s and at present at least 192 countries celebrate it.

As per the Earth Day Network, this year, the day is out-and-out to spread awareness about the pollution caused by plastic and the urgent need to stop using it.

On this day, people on social media too are raising their voice against unhealthy practices like deforestation and use of plastics.

United Nations tweeted “Happy #EarthDay from NYC! Here`s how you can join people around the ???? to protect our one and only planet: http://bit.ly/2Hhh7HU  #GlobalGoals”

while PM Narendara Modi also took to twitter saying “On #EarthDay, let us reaffirm our commitment towards creating a better planet for our future generations. Let us work together to mitigate the menace of climate change. This would be a great tribute to our beloved Mother Earth.”
