Agartala: Minister Sudip Roy Barman called at his residence, S Debbarma&his daughter Somati,locals of Dhalai's Amba… https://t.co/XJPOvp03NB — ANI (@ANI) 1529631626000AGARTALA: The state assembly on Thursday resolved to recommend 9-year-old tribal girl Sumati Debbarma for a gallantry award from the President of India and her father Swapan Debbarma for a job in Indian Railways.On June 15, the father-daughter duo from Dhalai's Dhancherra village saved over 2,000 lives by signalling the Dharmanagar-Agartala passenger train to stop after they noticed that a portion of tracks had been washed away by floods.State health minister Sudip Roy Barman introduced them in the VIP gallery of the assembly on Thursday.He said the soil under the railway track in Dhancherra between Mungiakami and Ambassa railway stations had been washed away by heavy rain, which was noticed by Swapan Debbarma and his daughter when they had stepped out of their house on the morning of June 15 to collect bamboo shoots.The chief minister assured the House that all kinds of assistance will be given to the family, as discussed at the next cabinet meeting.A proposal will be sent from the assembly to the President of India for conferring Sumati Debbarma with the gallantry award, which is given annually on the eve of Republic Day.Earlier, Northeast Frontier Railway had also announced a reward for Swapan Debbarma for his act of bravery and presence of mind.Tribal welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia awarded Swapan with cash amount of Rs 50,000 and BJP MLA Shankar Roy awarded him Rs 5,000..
