Summary:

Agra: In just the last seven months, 279 people were killed in Agra Government Railway Police (GRP) division after falling off trains or being run over. Surprisingly, there were more deaths of passengers due to illness or unprecedented medical emergencies in comparison to passengers who fell off from trains. Most of these deaths occurred in May (23 deaths) and June (26). Further, cases of falling off were prevalent in those trains which were bound for states like Bihar, as crowded coaches forced passengers to sit near footrest at entry or exit doors, risking their lives. In total, 396 casualties were reported from January to July-end, of which 127 bodies could not be identified and were cremated by GRP at their expense. The data also revealed that since 2014, Agra division reported 1,570 deaths from being run over by trains, primarily on the Delhi-Kanpur and Agra-Delhi railway tracks..
