Bomb disposal squad discovers 50 turtles from Kalka Mail in Aligarh

Agra: Members of the bomb disposal squad had a busy morning on Monday as with arrival of Howrah bound Kalka Mail, Aligarh junction sounded a bomb alert. The GRP also lodged an FIR against unknown persons for smuggling the turtle.“We have handed over the turtles to the district forest department which will release them in ponds, “added SHO Singh. After the inspection, it was found to be carrying a bunch of pond turtles which were being smuggled,” said GRP station house officer Vijay Singh.The shell reptiles were identified as endangered species of pond terrapin and Indian roofed turtles, which are generally sold illegally to those who own aquarium in hotels.Speaking to TOI, Singh confirmed that total 50 turtles were rescued. The squad looking for a bomb, found a bunch of harmless pond turtles tightly tied in a sack.According to government railway police of Aligarh junction, a distress call was made to railway protection force by a passenger, about a possible bomb hidden underneath a berth in a general coach.“As soon the train arrived, the suspicious sack which weighs several kg, was cautiously alighted from the coach and was taken to the end of the platform..
