Agra: Railways is conducting a trial run for long distance premium trains hauled by end-to-end electric engines. Instead, a second locomotive powers the speed and fulfills the electricity requirement for train. We have conducted trial in four sections between Mumbai and Hazrat Nizamuddin. The train is currently being tested between Mumbai and New Delhi. The trial run is being conducted by the testing department of the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO).Speaking with TOI, Hamid Akhtar, executive director of the testing department of RDSO, said, “The primary objective of the trial is to run an 18-coach express train of long distance at maximum possible speed along with zero carbon footprint. In the trial, railway officials confirmed that the train touched 160kmph equaling the speed of Gatimaan Express, who covers a short distance of 400 km in less than five hours.According to railway officials, the 18 LHB coach train does not have carbon emitting diesel generator car (coach) which conventionally powers the air conditioning and electric systems of trains like Rajdhani, Duronto, AC Express and Garibrath..
