Special task team to conduct surprise checks in district jails

The process will continue in accordance with the order.” AGRA: Inspector general (prison administration and reform services) Chandra Prakash has ordered jail superintendents to conduct surprise inspections in the prisons across Uttar Pradesh.Prakash instructed them to constitute a special task team comprising superintendents and jail warders to conduct intensive checking in the barracks and other areas within the jail premises.The order came in the wake of recovery of prohibited items like mobile phones, matchboxes, lighters, knives and nails from district jails of Ayodhya , Varanasi and Unnao.The IG further directed the superintendents to ensure that any prohibited item was not present on their jail premises, and to conduct surprise searches at regular intervals so that inmates could not store any prohibited item.Agra jail superintendent Shashikant Mishra said, “We have increased vigilance on the jail premises, and are conducting surprise checks in barracks..
